The Guide
The invoice and the mock-up of The Guide is due to the state by June 12 in order to receive this year’s Lodger’s tax to pay for The Guide. Libby Beck will print the mock-up. Laura Howell will give us an invoice.

Luanne Brooten is to look at the cost of 15,000 Guides vs. 20,000 from last year. We still have 3,000 in storage from last year.

Ronnie Hurrellson has volunteered to pick The Guides up at the printer in Tucson. This will save us approximately $400 in shipping costs.

Diane Reed will meet with Laura Howell to go over the maps.

Libby Beck will distribute Guides to local hotels before the Blues Festival this weekend.

Anyone out there want to take over the job of Guide Coordinator of Distribution? Last year’s coordinator did not renew her membership.

The Body Beautiful Art Show
The Body Beautiful Show will be held for two days on July 4 and 5th at the Silco Theater,
10 am – 4 pm both days. This is a juried show that is open to all artists in any 2d or 3d media. The fee is $20 for up to four pieces. No commission taken on sales. Cash prizes.

Delivery of pieces will happen on July 1 to Silver Spirit Gallery or Creations and Adornments Gallery. For additional information, contact our Show Director, Luanne Brooten, on Mondays or Tuesdays at Silver Spirit Gallery, 388-2079 or email her at artshow@silvercityartists.org.

Kid’s Art Camp
This year’s Kid’s Art Camp will happen on Saturday, July 18, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Silco Theater. Snacks and beverages will be served in lieu of lunch. This is a free Camp for children, grades 1-6.

Volunteer teachers are Mary A. Gravelle, Bonnie Burleson, Lee McCune, Sharon Scotti, Liz Baxter, and Rita Sherwood. Anyone else who might be interested should contact Luanne Brooten on Mondays or Tuesdays at 388-2079 or email her at artshow@silvercityartists.org.

The art camp will be dedicated in memory of Pat Bryant who donated the art materials and also to Myra Gordon. Both women passed away last year.

Mary Gravelle is to write a letter to Patricia at Walmart asking for a $50 gift card for the purchase of supplies or snacks for this event.

17th Annual Labors of Love Art Show
This event is held on Labor Day weekend, September 5th and 6th in the Silco Theater. Applications are being mailed out and may also be found on our website, silvercityartists.org, on the Happenings page. Deadline for application is August 3. For more information, call Diane Reed at 534-4269.

Online Newsletter
We have paid $135 to Constant Contact for six months service of our new online newsletter. This includes newsletter creation, image hosting, and newsletter archive.

Student Art Show
Mary Gravelle is to send out letters in September to the schools who participated in last year’s student art show requesting receipts for $100 for reimbursement of art supplies.

Rebecca Jacobs of Silver Scene will be writing an article and including photos of this year’s student art show.

Should SVA Continue Being an Organization Next Year?
Concerns were expressed about whether San Vicente Artists of Silver City should end next year. The current 6-9 volunteers are ready to move on from their duties. Will others come forward to carry the torch? Are you ready to help or do you think we should let our organization go?

Here are some of the great accomplishments of our organization:

  1. The Artist’s Guide provides visibility for our local art scene.
  2. Student Art Show provides a public avenue for young talent.
  3. The Body Beautiful Show provides a high level juried opportunity to all artists.
  4. Children’s Art Camp serves as a creative outlet for our little ones.
  5. Labors of Love Art Show provides a venue for artists to sell their work.
  6. Christmas Art Show provides another avenue for artists to sell their work.
  7. Student School Scholarship Program was able to award $500 scholarships to six students this year.
  8. Provide a web presence for its members.

The Children’s Art Camp, Student Art Show, and the Student School Scholarship Program are providing vital services to our future artists.

What are your ideas for infusing new energy into SVA?
