FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions
  • San Vicente Aritsts of Silver City (SVA)

    • What does SVA do?
      • SVA promotes regional arts along with Silver City NM local artists and galleries and all visual arts in the southwest part of New Mexico.
      • SVA promotes Silver City NM as an arts community worth visiting and receives lodgers tax money to help with this task.
      • SVA holds shows and events during the year including: Student Art Show, Body Beautiful Art Show, Children’s Art Camp, Gila River Landscape Show, Christmas Art Fair in conjunction with Grant County Arts Guild and the new December Art Show at MRAC offices all during the month of December.
      • SVA coordinates with and promotes all the other art organizations and art events in the area. SVA has a large display space for its members at no cost in Silver Spirit gallery.
      • SVA puts out the beautiful full color artist and gallery guide and distributes 10,000 copies throughout the South West United States.
      • SVA welcomes new artists to the Silver City NM area as they come to the organization’s attention.

    • What is SVA’s value to members?
      • The SVA arts organization is a valuable tool to members in getting themselves established in the arts community and having opportunities to showcase their artwork. If artists attend meetings or contact SVA they can make friends within the arts community.
      • Being listed in the guide and on the website is very effective and low cost advertising where you pay one small fee for the whole year and are in 10,000 guides and a beautiful website with links to many other sites as well as a link to your website.
      • Paying the small membership fee helps support a healthy arts community that is a benefit to all. Without paying members, SVA cannot exist or publish the artists guide and offer shows during the year.

    • What is the deadline to be included in The Guide?
      • To be included in the artist guide, artists should respond by April 7, 2012. Galleries and sponsors should respond by April 30, 2012. We will do our best to get everyone who responds by the end of April into the guide, but the book must be printed by the first week in June to qualify for lodgers tax so these deadlines are firm.
        • Call Luanne at 575-590-2006 for last minute membership requests. We are inputting info right now and can add artists as they come in.

    • Can I join SVA mid-year?
      • Yes, you will be included on the website and next year can be included in The Guide. You can put art up in the group space at Silver Spirit Gallery.

    • When is the next SVA meeting?
      • The next SVA meeting is April 7, 2012, but I am not sure if it is board meeting or general membership. Anyone would be welcome to come though, so I guess it could be listed as the next meeting. It will be at the Silver Spirit Gallery at 4pm and will be a potluck–kind of Easter celebration.

    • Where can I find artists?
      • When looking for artists, the artists guide will have phone numbers and gallery locations for all members.
      • SVA arts organization also has a website for art that lists all of the SVA members which includes artists and art spaces such as galleries, studios, and alternative art spaces.
      • Gallery members have contact information for all their member artists and links to the Arts and Culture District website which will be additional help in locating individual artists in New Mexico.
      • SVA, if contacted will do its best to locate artists, even if they are not members.
