Notice to Members Concerning the 2013 Guide

The Artists Guide 2012 — San Vicente Artists of Silver City

To all SVA members:

Another guide will be out shortly and having worked on this for years, we know that there are some problems.

First, the production committee is way too small for the amount of work involved. At the most, 3 people worked to get all the information in on time to the layout artist.

Next, there are only 3 people to do the proofreading and one isn’t even an SVA member.

There are always complaints about photos or missing information and the members need to know that we do our best under the time constraint of Lodger’s Tax–if we don’t have the guide in time, we don’t get the money for printing.

When members don’t turn in statements or art and we have to keep asking for it, that slows us down. It’s not a matter of just getting the information turned in but of inputting it and fitting everything into a set amount of pages. Being human involves making mistakes and sometimes the information turned in by artists has changed between turning it in and printing. If we are not notifed of the changes, there is nothing we can do.

As an artist, you are responsible for your statement, personal information and a digital photo of your NEW art. So often we are told to use last year’s art and that will not be happening in the future. We need a fresh guide each year and the art is the way to make it fresh and new. This is your chance to show something different, please take advanatage of it and meet your responsibilities. To expect 2-3 people to get your statement and photograph the art of many different artists is asking a lot of people who have their own lives to live.

Please be ready with your art and statement next year in February. If we start earlier, we won’t be in such a rush to get to print for Lodger’s Tax and we will have more time to correct mistakes.

THINK ABOUT VOLUNTEERING TO HELP rather than just complaining about errors. We need more people to gather information and to proof the guide. Those who work on it every year know that you do good work and are appreciated by the rest of us.
